From Walt: This is a reminder that in observance of the Lincoln and Washington Birthday Holidays CCar will not be operating on Friday February 12, 2010 or Monday February 15, 2010. CCar will resume it’s normal schedule on Tuesday February 16, 2010.

The Executive Board of the Connecticut Library Association (CLA) approved the Resource Sharing Section’s Bylaws, which are posted on the section’s wiki.

As stated in the bylaws, the goals of Resource Sharing Section of CLA are to:

encourage and promote Resource Sharing and to work actively toward the improvement of Resource Sharing services to people in Connecticut. Resource Sharing is the library service that seeks to make the collections of one library available to the patrons of another library efficiently and effectively. Resource sharing incorporates activities related to interlibrary loan, including automated discovery tools, such as shared online catalogs, physical and electronic delivery, and reciprocal borrowing. The Section shall strive to keep members informed of best practices and developments in Resource Sharing and to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas related to those areas of library service.

Connecticar will not operate next Thursday, November 26th, Thanksgiving Day.

In addition, Route B will not be operating on Friday, November 27th. This is the first of three furlough days for state employees to cope with the state budget situation.

As you know we conducted a survey of the volume being delivered on Connecticar during the week of October 26th through the 30th Thank you to all the libraries that took the time to count their items and enter their data.

We have compiled the results and – no surprise – it looks like our volume has increased. Extrapolating from the sample, it looks like we average about 2.75 million items a year! That is well over the approximate level of 2 million in our last two surveys.

The Connecticut State Library will conduct a brief survey during the week of October 26th to determine the volume of items being shipped on Connecticar. For planning purposes we need to periodically get a sampling of the volume on Ccar and we haven’t done one since Oct 2007. This information will help us improve our service.

During the week of October 26th we will be asking you to count all incoming shipments on Ccar and enter the number of items you received in a brief form on Survey Monkey.
