reQuest Borrowing Cut-off dates

Attn: Those using reQuest ILL:iconn_logo2

I created a page that lists the dates that libraries will be turning off their reQuest ILL borrowing (i.e. removing the “Request this item” button for patrons) and it’s at:

http://libguides.ctstatelibrary.org/dld/request/illcutoffdates

I initially created this page to help me keep track of things, but I’m making the page live so that everyone can view it. Seeing what other libraries are doing may help you make your decision. As you can see from that page, some libraries have turned off borrowing already, while others are waiting until a later date.

As you think about an end date for the current system, it may help to consider what information is in your circulation system. Depending on what information is there, your circulation system may serve as a back-up for requests that are still in the ILL process after June 30.

* For borrowing: if you use your circulation system to check out to patrons items that they borrow on ILL, you will have records of your borrowing transactions in your circulation system. Further, most books have paperwork in them and most have a barcode or stamp of the owning library, so when the patron returns it, you’ll be able to identify the lending library and will be able to return the item. When reQuest ILL goes down on June 30, you can use your circulation system for the borrowing information on any outstanding requests.

* For lending: if you use your circulation system to check out to a specific library your loans on ILL, you will have record of your lending transactions in your circulation system. When reQuest ILL goes down on June 30, you can use your circulation system for the lending information on any outstanding requests.

I also suggest that you print out any remaining ILLs from the reQuest system on June 30, so you have a paper back up.

I hope some of this information helps.

Regards, Steve
